Bethel Throws Seven Strong in Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Freshman starting pitcher for Golden West(14-12, 6-5) Troy Bethel (1-1) threw seven strong innings while capturing his first win of the season, 6-2. 

Bethel would surrender two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking two batters on his way to victory over Cypress College(18-9, 5-6). The offense would help secure his win in the bottom of the seventh inning when they exploded for five runs on four hits while batting around. 

The Rustlers would find themselves down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning. Chris Rodriguez would leadoff the the third inning with a double followed by a Jeff Zordani single. With runners on the corners, Louie Canjura would hit a sac fly to deep left field that would score Rodriguez tagging from third to even the game at 1-1. 

A solo home run by Cypress's Logan Swafford in the fourth innnig would allow the Chargers to regain the lead 2-1. All would stay quiet until the bottom of the seventh offensive explosion that would seal the victory for the Rustlers 6-2. Nick Tingrides would hit an RBI single followed by a fielders choice run scored by Zakk Morgan. Zordani would provide the proverbial dagger with a two RBI double to left center field, and then for good measure Jeremiah Vison would smack a liner to center field for a RBI single of his own. 

Adam Moses came in relief of Bethel in the eighth inning throwing two scoreless innings giving up one hit and striking out two to secure the win.

NEXT: Golden West will travel to Cypress to finish the three games series Saturday April 1 at 12pm.
