Baseball: Lapiner, Alfaro Cap Off Dramatic Walk-Off Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West had to figure out how to get to the Mt. SAC bullpen and then the offense took care of the rest for a dramatic 5-4 walk-off win.

It was an impressive start for both teams on the mound as the Rustlers starter, Caleb Turner turned in 6+ innings of work surrendering two runs on three hits with 11 impressive strikeouts. The Mounties starter, Michael Gutierrez threw 7+ innings while striking out nine and surrendering one run on four hits. Golden West needed to find a way to get Gutierrez out of the game as he kept the offense off-balance at the plate. The offense stepped up in the bottom of the ninth to claim their fifth straight victory and the longest win streak of the season.

The Rustlers got the bases loaded on a base knock from Logan Gallina and back to back walks from Cody Andavolgy and Julian Boyd. After a strike out for the second out, head coach Drew Ramos then plugged in his relief pitcher Jackson Lapiner as a hitter to take out the designated hitter. Lapiner came through clutch with a bases clearing, two out, three RBI double to tie the game at 4-4. Lapiner would advance to third on a wild pitch, Joe Yost would walk to setup a first and third situation for Sergio Alfaro, who then proceeds to smack a line drive to left center field to cap off the walk-off win 5-4.

NEXT: Golden West will host Mt. SAC again on Thursday, May 13th for a 2pm first pitch.
