Baseball: Sebring homers off first pitch, Rustlers sweep LA Pierce

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Rustler bats have exploded as they closed out their two-game series against LA Pierce with a sweep (15-3) on Friday.

After starting pitcher Johnnie Valdez Jr. quickly shut down the Brahmas' chances to score in the first inning with three-up-three-down, it was go time for the Rustlers.

Wasting no time at all, third baseman Jonah Sebring got a hold of the first pitch of the game for the Rustlers, knocking it out of The Hoov for his first time this season.

"Jumping on the first pitch early, especially the first pitch of the game, when you are trying to start a rally and get our offense going [is] huge," Jonah Sebring said. "It's a spark plug moment, you know, everybody starts feeding off each other's energy, and I think it was a great way to start off the game."

Sebring came up the following inning and hit a triple, followed by a single in the fourth inning. He was one double short of hitting for the cycle, putting the blame on himself for getting too into his own head.

"I think I was just thinking about it too much," Sebring said. "I could have simplified it a little more and just focused on my at-bats, not on the result."

Steven Casas and Miles Jenkins also added a double and two more RBI each to the scoreboard. Kelso Burke, Adam Arroyo, Luis Gutierrez, and Matthew Olivares were among those who successfully brought their guys across home plate.

Valdez Jr. earned his first win of the season, totaling two hits, two walks, and four strikeouts through five innings. Between the two games against LA Pierce, the Rustlers put up 25 runs, 21 hits and a single error.
