Baseball: Rustlers respond quickly, secure tenth win of the season

Huntington Beach, Calif. - After two series on the road, the Rustlers (10-5) brought the heat at home, beating San Diego Mesa 20-10 on Tuesday.

"I think it was good for our guys to be away for two trips of three days – good team camaraderie," Head Coach Andrew Ramos said. "We haven't played as well on the road, but it's always good to play at The Hoov."

Starting pitcher Jason Blood gave up an early two-run blast in the first inning to put San Diego on the board. Over two innings, he retired three of the nine batters faced. Blood went on to earn his second win of the season.

Golden West answered right away, putting up a total of five runs in the bottom of the first inning following two wild pitches, two sacrifice flies by Steven Casas and DJ McEvers, and a triple by Kelso Burke.

Putting 19 runs on the board halfway into the game, Ramos and his staff were able to exercise their roster.

"The bullpen did well until the end," Ramos said. "We got a couple of guys in for [Robert] Bolton's second appearance, and [Conor] Burdian's first appearance, so that was good," Ramos said.

The last run of the game was nothing short of impressive. Catcher Adam Arroyo recorded his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning, after coming into the game in the mid innings.

"We got a lot of our hitters in the game that were healthy so it was enjoyable," Ramos said.

NEXT: Golden West will be heading to West LA on Thursday, taking on the Wildcats at 2 p.m.
