Baseball: Rustlers lasered in runs, beat Irvine Valley 15-2

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Rustler Baseball (22-17, 8-12) came out to Hoover Field with their bats blazing as they took down Irvine Valley (16-23, 4-16) 15-2 on Thursday.

"We didn't chase, we attacked," Ramos said. "We had some really good swings today, put the ball in play, and it got contagious."

The Rustlers offense broke a season high record, rallying 21 hits. Of the 21 hits, eight were doubles, and two were triples.

All of the runs except for one were batted in by a Rustler hitter. Shortstop Jonah Sebring, catcher Adam Arroyo, left fielder Zech Samayoa, and third baseman Matthew Olivares all accounted for driving in two runners each.

Starting pitcher Brett Wozniak (6-3) made his last start at The Hoov one to remember, earning his sixth win of the season after putting up sixth scoreless innings. Wozniak came out of the game after the seventh inning, leaving his line of work at four hits, two earned runs, no walked batters, and ten strike outs.

"Brett was really good for the second week in a row," Head Coach Andrew Ramos said. "[His] fastball was working well, he was commanding it well, curveball was really good, threw a couple cutters, it was all working well for the second time in a row, so it was good to see."

Marco Ibarra entered in the eighth inning, striking out two Irvine batters, and finished the game for the Rustlers with no hits, walks, or runs.

"It's always good to close out the home season with a win," Ramos said. "There are some guys who have been here for three years, some four with the COVID situation, so for them to come out with a win — it was a good day for sure."

Sophomores Miles Jenkins, Sergio Alfaro, Mylan Jones, and Gunnar Magrann were amongst those to increase the lead over Irvine.

"I think we have grown a lot," Ramos said. "If we are able to sneak into the playoffs, I think we are playing the best baseball we've seen."
