Baseball: Kordic’s Monster Day Leads to Rustlers Walk-Off Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. -Dylan Kordic used a monster 4-4 day at the plate to help propel the Rustlers in their walk-off win Tuesday afternoon against visiting Fullerton College 10-9.

In a odd non-conference matchup between Orange Empire Conference foes, both teams used the game as bullpen days for their pitching staffs. The Hornets used 10 different pitchers and the Rustlers used eight.

The Rustlers chipped away early and held a 4-1 lead until the Hornets big sixth inning when they plated six runs to take the lead 7-4. Fullerton would plate two more runs with one in the eighth and one in the ninth to extend their lead to 9-4.

That's when the Golden West offense decided enough is enough and smashed the ball around the park. Aiden Garcia opened the bottom of the ninth with a single to center field, Dylan Lina was then hit by a pitch, and this setup Kordic's monster 3-run homer to center field that cleared the batter's eye and cut the lead to 9-7 with no outs.

The next batter Jack Salmon, roped a single to left field to start the final rally of the game. Adam Baggetta followed up with a walk and then Preston Allen laid down a perfect bunt for a single to load the bases. Head Coach Drew Ramos went to the bench and called on Nathan Beckley as a pinch hitter who wasted no time smacking a RBI single to left field to make it a one run game at 9-8. Ulisses Perez worked a RBI walk to tie the game at 9-9 and then Rocco Cabellaro smashed a long walk-off single to left center field for the win 10-9.

Golden West is on the road over the weekend in a three-game series with College of the Sequoias.
