Rustlers Even the Series Against Olympians with 5-2 Victory

Huntington Beach, CA - Golden West baseball (3-2, 0-0 OEC) takes game two against San Diego Mesa (2-3, 0-0 PCAC), 5-2.

Golden West and San Diego Mesa met for their second game in a three game series on an overcast Saturday afternoon. The Olympians took the first game in convincing fashion on Friday, 2-6. Though the Rustlers fell in the first game, their explosive bats launched two home run blasts. Golden West carried over their first inning success from the prior game as they tallied an early RBI. Zech Samayoa hit a deep ball to center which scored Kaleb Duncan from third for a sacrifice fly, 1-0.

In the fourth, San Diego Mesa tied and took the lead from a RBI single and fielder's choice. The Rustlers responded right back to tie the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame. Samayoa stepped up to the plate and crushed  the ball over the 390 ft. sign to tie the game with an exclamation. Though the Olympias threatened in the top of the fifth inning with two runners on, Alex Ramos got out of the frame without any damage.

An inning later, the home team got the bats going to take the lead. Dylan Lina roped the ball to left field on the warning track past the diving left fielder. The double scored Robert Castillo from second and put two runners in scoring position. Later in the inning, the Rustlers took a two run edge off of an error by San Diego Mesa, 4-2. Golden West kept the pressure on in the fifth frame when Andrew Kirchner entered the box. The first baseman demolished the ball over the 417 ft. sign in dead center to expand the Rustlers advantage.

Golden West would hold strong and take the second game against the Olympians, 5-2. Samayoa and Kirchner swung big bats with two solo home runs each. Lina found extra base hits multiple times with a triple and a double on his 2-4 RBI day. Pitching was a highlight for the Rustlers as AJ Hernandez went 3.1 frames and only allowed two runs. Ramos carried the load as he pitched the rest of 5.2 innings, struck out seven batters and did not allow a run. Golden West earned their third victory of the season and first win at Fred Hoover Field.
