Golden West scored early and often leading to a 42-10 trouncing of Palomar at LeBard Stadium.
It did not take long for Golden West (4-1) to begin its scoring onslaught as quarterback Chris d'Entremont connected with Nik Little for a 9-yard touchdown pass. D'Entremont would find Little twice more to give the duo three touchdowns for 335 combined yards. The Rustlers scored 28 points before the 14 minute mark of the second quarter giving Palomar (2-3) no chance to catch them.
D'Entremont had 4 touchdowns on the day including one to Marcus Sanchez just as the second quarter started. Palomar would eventually get on the board in the second quarter courtesy of a 47-yard field goal by Jonathan Leiva. Golden West answered right away as d'Entremont completed his third touchdown to Little, a 28-yard pass.
The second half was much less of a grind for Golden West as it had a comfortable 35-3 lead. D'Entremont made the lead even more comfortable by recovering his running back's fumble in the end zone.
Golden West's defense played a large role in preserving the big lead. Anthony McNichols, Nate Simon, and Colton Teglovic each made an interception, Simon bailing out the defense with his at the 1-yard-line. Despite the Rustler's defensive prowess, there were lapses in focus as four personal fouls were committed in the second quarter, two on the drive that lead to the Comet field goal.
Palomar would eventually score a touchdown in the fourth quarter, a 16-yard run by Garrett Fiehler. Palomar Quarterback Ryan Lamb did not have the same magic as last week against Orange Coast. Lamb was sacked 5 times to go along with his 3 interceptions. The Rustler defense always seemed to be in his face soon after the ball was snapped.
Golden West is away at Pasadena next week and at Grossmont the week after. The Rustlers will not be home until Oct. 26 to take on Santa Ana.
