Golden West Improves to 5-0

COSTA MESA - Golden West authored yet another second-half comeback in beating Southern Division rival Fullerton, 24-17, at Orange Coast College Saturday night to stay unbeaten.

The Rustlers' "go-to guy" as coach Nick Mitchell calls him, was again, Quest Truxton.
Truxton had 10 catches for 132 yards (both game highs), including a 9-yard scoring toss from Adam Vance to get Golden West (5-0, 2-0) even at 17-17, with 9:47 to play.

The Newport Harbor graduate also led the Rustlers with 54 yards rushing on just two carries. But it was his 52-yard end-around that set up the eventual game winner when Josh Smith scored on a 4-yard dash to keep their season perfect.

Golden West outscored Fullerton (2-3, 0-2) 17-0 in the fourth quarter."Our defense has been our biggest asset thus far, but when we need a play to be made, we go to Quest," Mitchell said. "He is the best football player we have. We knew it would be tough and battled to the end."

Trey Tinsley went 28 of 49 for 276 yards and a 19-yard TD strike to Tim Holt, but the Hornets quarterback was picked off three times.

Vance finished 18 of 35 for 270 and the score to Truxton, without throwing a pick.Golden West's Jordan Veasy had four catches for 50 yards and Malcolm Smith caught two balls for 65 yards.
