Huntington Beach, Calif. - The special teams unit gave up two long punt returns for touchdowns and the offense's lone interception was also returned for a touchdown in lopsided loss to top ranked Riverside City College 56-13. 

The defense came to play early for Golden West as they picked off the Riverside offense twice in their first two drives to start the game. Sean Branch secured the first interception and returned it 14 yards and then Isaiah Palmer got in on the action and returned his interception ten yards. Momentum was on the Rustlers defensive side but not on the offensive side as Riverside's defense forced five three and out's in the first quarter.  

Trailing 21-0 in the second quarter, the Rustlers finally got their first points on the scoreboard thanks to Tahje Morant 3-yard rush. The extra point kick would then get blocked for Golden West to cut the lead to 21-6. The Tigers would add another touchdown before half to take a 28-6 halftime lead.

Then the dreaded third quarter special teams' touchdowns and defensive pick six for Riverside sealed the game as they held a commanding 49-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Rustlers second their second touchdown late in the fourth quarter as quarterback Zach Lewis connected with wideout David Atencio with a 36-yard strike.
