Football: Morant Rumbles for 113 Yards in Huge Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. – Running back Tahje Morant rumbles for 113 yards and a touchdown in huge 27-20 win for the Rustlers to have a chance of clinching a bowl game with a win next week.

Morant got the Rustlers scoring started when he barreled his way to the endzone on a 22 yard bounce out run to tie the game 7-7 against Southwestern seven minutes into the quarter. Golden West had a totaled 186 rushing yards on the afternoon that was anchored by Morant's 15 rushes for 113 yards.

The Rustlers offense also saw the return of quarterback Nathaniel Espinoza as he shared time with Zach Lewis under center. Combined they went 15 of 24 through the air with Espinoza accounting for the two throwing touchdowns. The first one came just before halftime when Espinoza threw a 19-yard strike to David Atencio to give the Rustlers a 20-13 lead at the half. The second throwing touchdown came on a 63-yard connection with Trevor Hobbs with a minute and thirteen seconds on the clock in the third quarter for a 27-13 lead.

The Golden West defense which held the Jaguars to only 41 rushing yards was relentless in their pursuit of the quarterback. A season high four sacks were recorded as Pablo Araya had two of them along with Seau Amor recording 1.5 sacks in the 27-20 victory.

The Rustlers will close out the regular season Saturday, November 16 at home as they take the Grossmont College Griffins.
