Football: Week Seven Rankings Has Rustlers Move Up, #21 Nationally

SAN MATEO – There's no change among the top five teams in California Community College football after the opening week of league play. However, your Rustlers have moved up to #21 in the national JCGridIron poll.

The Rustlers are the unanimous #5 ranked team in the California Community College football polls and look to build on that with a victory against the 25th ranked Bobcats on Saturday. The defense has been great all year as they rank fourth in the CCCAA in points per game allowed at 11.7. The defense is second in CCCAA with 24 sacks, only one behind the state leader in Merced. Freshman linebacker Khilyn Neal leads the defense with 3.5 sacks.

The offense has been just as impressive averaging 417.8 yards per game with 187.5 coming on the ground and 230.3 yards through the air. In the redzone the Rustlers are 21 for 26 in coming up with a score good for 81% of their trips, which places them eighth in the state rankings. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff will try to find his number one end zone target Tanner Branson often and early on Saturday.
