Football: Falls in showdown of SoCal's top-ranked teams

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The top ranked Riverside City College Tigers came to town Saturday afternoon in a showdown of SoCal's top-ranked teams to take on the third ranked Golden West College Rustlers, the Tigers took this one 58-21.

Riverside kept the Golden West defensive on their heels all game and that does not happen often here in Huntington Beach as they took a 17-0 lead after the first quarter.

The Rustler offense just couldn't get any momentum till closer to halftime when quarterback Ui Ale connected with Nick Kennewell for a 48yd touchdown strike to get the Rustlers on the scoreboard. That connection of Ale and Kennewell would strike again in the third quarter, this time for a 65yd touchdown to make it a 48-14 ball game midway through the third quarter.

A positive on the defensive side of the ball for the Rustlers came in the fourth quarter when sophomore Dane Despars intercepted a pass and took it to the house for a pick-six. Otherwise this was a forgetable game for the normally dominant Rustler defense as they surrendered 728 total yards with 531 via the air.

Golden West will look to bounce back in their final non-league game as they are set to travel to Long Beach City College for a 6pm kickoff.
