Football: 5 Interceptions Leads Rustlers Over Visiting Olympians

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The defense intercepted the ball five times en route to 35-7 home win over No. 15 San Diego Mesa Saturday afternoon.

The Golden West defense leads the CCCAA interceptions with 22 and nine of them have been returned for a touchdown. In this game Wyatt Potter returned his first interception to the house in the second quarter to extend the Rustlers lead to 14-0.

Linebacker Khilyn Neal grabbed another interception after tallying two in last week's game, Tyler Williams, Kentrelle Omar (returned for a touchdown) and Potter (2 INTs) round out the defensive interceptions.

Mesa didn't do much on defense to stop the rushing game as the Rustlers ran for 178 yards, led by Jared Johnson 74 yards on nine touches. Quarterback Ui Ale was responsible for all three offensive touchdowns as he tallied the lone rushing touchdown and then threw for two touchdowns. Ale was 15 of 27 throwing for 150 yards through the air and then ran 11 times for 63 yards.

Wide out Robert Sarmiento led the receiving corps with six grabs for 54 yards and two touchdowns.

Golden West will be on the road next with the Southern League title on the line at No. 5 Fullerton for a 6pm kickoff.
