MONTEREY PARK – Quarterback Will Burns tossed three touchdown passes while the Golden West College offense totaled 482 yards in an impressive 49-7 National Central League win at East Los Angeles College on Saturday.

The No. 8 state-ranked Rustlers bounced back from their first loss last week and improved to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in Central League play.

The Rustlers led 28-0 at halftime and were up 49-0 midway through the fourth quarter when East Los Angeles (1-3, 0-1 NCL) finally scored.

Burns threw touchdowns passes to Micah Mauer (5 yards), Hideo Ray (29 yards), and Trey Nelson (13 yards). Burns ended his day completing 10 of 13 passes for 157 yards and no interceptions. He also ran 9 times for 27 yards.

GWC rushed for a season-high 294 yards in the game, led by Kendric Thomas with 6 carries for 107 yards. He had a huge 66-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Camdyn Stiegler also scored on a 1-yard TD run.

While the Rustlers' offense erupted for 5 touchdowns on the day, the GWC defense did its part by scoring a pair of TDs on its own while limiting East Los Angeles to just 102 yards of offense.

Ryan Rizk recovered a East Los Angeles fumble in the Huskies' end zone for a touchdown and Simarion Hughes had a 31-yard interception return for a TD. Marcus Works added an interception and Brandon Soleau led with 6 tackles.

Golden West will look to keep the momentum going next Saturday (Oct. 5) when the Rustlers travel to Citrus College for a 6 p.m. National Central League game.
