M Basketball: Tough Opening Weekend for the Return of Rustler Basketball

San Diego, Calif. -  The return of men's basketball at Golden West College hit the road down south to the 8th Annual Don Gehler Memorial basketball tournament at San Diego Miramar College.

Game 1

The Rustlers opened their 2019-2020 season against the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines. Golden West came out a little sluggish in the first half as they trailed at halftime 50-36 but they started to find their rhythm in the second half has they were able to close in and lose 109-89. Francis Dogani and Eric Watson led Golden West with 18 points each and Malik Colquhoun chipped in 15 points.

Game 2

Golden West faced off against LA Pierce Saturday afternoon and lost 95-78. Pierce had a dynamic duo that was tough to stop as they accounted for 58 of the teams 95 points. Francis Dogani led the charge for the Rustlers as he netted 25 points and was three of five from beyond the 3-point line.

Game 3

The Rustlers were back at it on Sunday as they took on Barstow College in the final day of the tournament. The squad just couldn't hold on as they fell 116-103 in a shootout where the Rustlers lived at the free throw line converting 30 of 44 attempts. Again, Francis Dogani led the Rustlers in scoring with 23 points, but Justin Kirksey was right behind him with 20 points.
