Huntington Beach, Calif. - The 2022-23 Golden West College men's basketball team falls in their season opener at home to visiting Rio Hondo College 88-84 Tuesday night. 

The game was tied 84-84 with :38 seconds left the Rustlers tried to make the defensive stop as Alex Ball blocked a shot but the Roadrunners were able to get the ball back and put back the layup for the two point lead. Point guard Aaunya Clark immediately attempted to push the ball up the court but turned the ball over as he dribbled into a double team that led to an easy layup and the final score, 88-84. 

Ball came off the bench to record a double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points while Soma Doherty lead the Rustlers with 22 points on 9 of 13 shooting. 

Golden West is on the road on Friday to play Victor Valley at Barstow College at 5pm due to a gym issue at Victor Valley.
