Men's Soccer Take the Win 1-0

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West (3-4) returned to winning ways today with a 1-0 win over El Camino- Compton Center (5-1) at home. The Rustlers came out strong and never took their foot off the pedal in their attempt to control the tempo of the game.

The men of Golden West came together as a unit and worked the ball around skillfully on the field. This consistent possession of the ball added up to 14 total shots on the day. Goalkeeper David Elias was only asked questions of two times, both of which he saved, earning the team a much needed clean sheet.

Irving Guadarrama broke the deadlock when Justin Funes found him in space and he struck a blistering shot from about 30 yards from goal. The Compton goalkeeper dove to make the save, only to see the ball dip at the last second just below his outstretched arms. The Rustlers had several other opportunities to further the gap, but they were unable to beat the keeper for a second time on the day. However, as the final whistle blew, the Rustlers saw themselves on the winning side of a well deserted 1-0 victory.

The Rustlers will now have nearly two weeks off to make the needed adjustments and improvements in the squad before they begin league play against Fullerton College away at 3pm on October 1st.
