Men's Soccer Opens Conference Play With a Win

Fullerton, Calif. - Golden West (4-4, 1-0) opened their league play up with a 2-1 road win over Fullerton College (5-3, 0-1). The Rustlers came out strong to start the game and earned several opportunities to score, and while they struggled to find the back of the net, the game ended victorious for Golden West.

The game went into half time tied despite Golden West having several opportunities to score. The Rustlers continue to push for the opening goal when, in the 60th minute Fidel Nieves put in a dangerous corner kick that landed on the foot of Noe Corona who laced the shot into the back of the net. The Rustlers came back again in the 70th minute when Alvin Ballesteros found the back of the net off of a low driven cross from Ruben Orellana. Fullerton was able to pull back a goal in the 83rd minute off of a turnover that was then driven across the box to a wide open player. The defense was able to stay strong though and gave Fullerton no more chances at goal to end the game 2-1.

The Rustlers look to extend their winning streak on Friday at home against Santiago Canyon at 3:00pm
