Rustlers Fall to Santiago Canyon 2-1

Rustlers Fall to Santiago Canyon 2-1

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West (4-4-1, 1-0-1) suffered a tough loss against a very strong Santiago Canyon (6-0-2, 1-0-1). Both teams came out strong from the beginning and showed that they were not going to back down. The game went back and forth with neither side able to break the 0-0 deadlock before the half.

After continuously pressuring, Santiago finally found the opportunity to get a clear shot open off of a volley that beat goalkeeper David Elias to put Santiago Canyon up 1-0. Santiago continued to push and, just a few minutes later, the Rustlers found themselves down 2-0.

Refusing to give up, the Rustlers pressed higher and higher up the pitch and put Santiago under enormous pressure. This pressure led to a foul about 25 yards out from goal that Captain Jaime Rios was able to strike around the wall and beat the keeper to take the score to 2-1. Despite the Rustlers' increased intensity, which created several opportunities, they were unable to get the ball beyond the Santiago Canyon goalkeeper before the referee blew the final whistle, concluding a 2-1 loss.

The Rustlers look to bounce back at home on Tuesday October 8th against Cypress College at 3pm.
