Men's Soccer Steals the Hornet's Sting

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Rustlers (7-6-2, 4-2-2) increased their unbeaten streak to 4 in a row with their 2-0 win at home against Fullerton College (8-5-2, 3-3-2). The game started slowly with neither team wanting to give the other any chances on goal. This defensive stalemate continued with the Hornets only having one shot to the Rustler's 4 shots in the first half.

At half time Golden West's coaching staff made some adjustments before heading into the second half and the changes quickly had an impact. In the 49th minute, Alvin Ballesteros lofted a chipped pass just over and behind the Fullerton defense for Josh Garcia, who timed his run perfectly to stay onside. Garcia brought the ball down with a great first touch that took him straight to goal. Full of composure and confidence, Garcia picks his head up, sees the stationary Fullerton goalkeeper, and passes it past him to put the Rustlers up 1-0.

Pressure from the Rustlers in their offensive third, won them a free kick from about 35 yards out that Noe Corona stepped up to take. Corona whipped in a dangerous ball that curled away from the goalkeeper and into the path of William Lane, who timed his jump perfectly to head the ball past the Fullerton goalkeeper.

At the final whistle, the hosts were able to maintain their clean sheet and extended their unbeaten streak to four games.

The Rustlers return to action away to Santiago Canyon College on Tuesday, October 29 at 3pm.
