Men's Soccer Defeats IVC 2-0

Irvine, Calif. - Golden West (9-8-2, 6-4-2) bounced back when they traveled to Irvine Valley College (3-8-8, 3-6-3) and came home with a 2-0 victory.

The game started slow, with much of the play staying in the middle of the field. Neither team was able to take ahold of the game sending the men tied up 0-0 at the half. After some halftime adjustments, the Rustlers came out with a little more offensive pressure.

Golden West kept the ball for long portions of the second half, but were unable to sneak the ball into the IVC goal. Finally, in the 80th minute, Max Hubert got the ball through to goal and poked it just passed the oncoming IVC goalkeeper to draw the foul for a penalty. Gabriel Barriga stepped up and drilled the penalty to the top left corner to give Golden West a 1-0 lead.

After the goal, the game opened up with IVC looking for the equalizer. The Rustlers were able to exploit the IVC attack when Jaime Rios received the ball just outside the box and drove the ball low off the far post. Kyle Nicolau crashed the goal looking for the rebound and chested the ball into the the open net to make the score 2-0 in the 88th minute. The Rustlers were able to hold strong to finish the game for the 2-0 victory.

The Rustlers return to league action on Tuesday November 12th at home against NorCo College at 3pm.
