Men's Soccer Defeats Fullerton

Fullerton, Calif. - The Rustlers continue their undefeated streak in league play with a game winning goal in stoppage time against the Hornets of Fullerton College.

Golden West (5-1-2, 2-0) started out strong and were able to take the lead in the 7th minute when Nathan DaRosa crossed the ball across the box to Justin Funes, who calmly brought the ball down to his feet and passed the ball just past the outstretched Fullerton goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

The score would remain the same up until halftime, with the Rustlers getting several chances in a very physical game. Fullerton was quick to adjust at halftime and were able to equalize in the 50th minute. As both teams battled for the win, it looked destined to end in a tie.

That is, until deep into stoppage time, when Ricardo Canales was able to slot the ball in behind the defense to Fernando Perez, who struck the ball with pace and accuracy past the keeper and into the roof of the net, putting the Rustlers in the lead 2-1 with seconds to go. The hosts have one more push, but the Rustlers stood strong in defense and were able to see out the game and secure another league victory.

The Rustlers return to action on Tuesday October 7th at 3pm as they travel to Santiago Canyon College.
