Sanchez Drills PK Goal to Seal Win

Sanchez Drills PK Goal to Seal Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The first half of Tuesday afternoon's soccer match between visiting Fullerton College and host Golden West College got off to a slow start but ended with a bang. Thanks to a late game take down in the box by the Hornets, the Rustlers Ernesto Sanchez was able to seal the win with an 87th minute penalty kick goal.

The first half was a bit sluggish as both teams couldn't quite find their rythym offensively as the defenses did most of the work. That was until Luis Juarez netted a place kick from just outside the 18yd box top shelf to give the Rustlers a 1-0 lead going into halftime. The start of the second half was more of the same from both squads as they were still trying to figure each other out. Fullerton struck to tie the game at 1-1 in the 75th minute to put the pressure on Golden West to win. The Rustlers took 12 second half shots but couldn't find the back of the goal until a terribly timed slide tackle by Fullerton gave Sanchez a penalty kick in the 87th minute. Golden West missed their first penalty kick in the first half as the Hornets goalie guessed right, but this time Sanchez out smarted the goalie for an easy PK goal and 2-1 win.

Next: Golden West will travel to Norco College Friday, October 20th for a 3pm kickoff.
