Escudero and Vargas Score to Send Rustlers to 2nd Round

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Number four seeded Golden West College stayed true to their aggressive style of play in round one of the California Community College Athletic Association soccer playoffs by firing 17 shots with two finding the back of the net for a 2-1 victory over the 13th seeded East Los Angeles College Huskies.

The Huskies would get the scoring going first when they found the back of the net in the 21st minute. It only took the Rustler's thirty seconds to respond to tie the game when Juan Vargas set up Ronaldo Escudero beautifully for a chip in goal. Golden West had several more good looks at taking the lead through the first half but couldn't capitalize as the match went into to halftime 1-1.

In a very physical second half Golden West's Vargas netted his first goal of the postseason off an assist from his brother Jesus Vargas in the 65th minute to take the lead for good at 2-1. Goalkeeper Luis Sosa recorded three saves and one goal against in 90 minutes of play.

NEXT: #4 Golden West will host #5 Compton College Wednesday November 22nd at 7pm.
