M Soccer: Earns First Win on the Road

Long Beach, Calif. - The Rustler men's soccer team earned it's first victory of the season in a tough match against the Vikings 1-0.

Golden West's (1-0-2) Carlos DiazVerduzco scored the only goal early in the match in the 9th minute of play. Diaz received an orthodox pass from freshman Anthony Garcia who recorded the assist. The offense then struggled to possess the ball to create scoring opportunities to extend the lead as they finished with three shots on goal in 90 minutes of play. Assistant coach Marvin Devia said "it was a very difficult game for our boys. We are very young and struggling to compete right now. But, I believe some of our younger players will soon learn how to play at this level."

The Rustler defense continues to shine as they limited Long Beach City College (0-2-1) to four shots on goal en route to the teams second shutout in the first three games of the season. Goalkeeper Jose Vega played all 90 minutes in net as he saw a total of 11 shots and four on goal.

NEXT: Golden West will continue to be on the road as they travel to Cerritos College Friday, September 7th for a 3pm kickoff.
