M Soccer: Advance to Second Round in PK Thriller 5-4

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West men's soccer team prevailed in the CCCAA round 1 playoff match against Santa Barbara City College in PK's 5-4.

The sixth-seeded Rustlers and the 11th-seeded Vaqueros were tied 0-0 after 120 minutes of regulation and overtime. Golden West (12-5-4) prevailed on penalty kicks, 5-4, and advanced to the second round.

Santa Barbara's starting goalie was injured in the 16th minute after three spectacular stops in row and a Vaqueros forward was sent off with a red card in the 60th minute. This left Santa Barbara with 10 men for the last 30 minutes of regulation and 30 minutes of overtime. Still, the Golden West offense couldn't find the back of the net after having many opportunities to do so.

NEXT: #6 Golden West will travel to Orange Empire Conference Champions and the #3 seeded Fullerton College Hornets on Tuesday, November 20th for a 2nd round match-up at 2pm.
