M Soccer: Juan Vargas Named MVP in the Orange Empire Conference

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West men's soccer defender, Juan Vargas was named 2018 most valuable player in the Orange Empire Conference. 

Vargas led the team with 10 goals scored and finished second on the team with three assists for an astounding 23 points. He was just as important on defense as he was on offense, he guided the Rustlers to eight shutouts on the season. 

Golden West also had three honored on the All-OEC first team and three honored on the second team. The three honored with first team selections were Omar Galvan, Ricardo Canales, and Jesus Vargas

Omar Galvan was a formidable defender that guided the Rustlers to eight shutouts on the season and scored one goal. Midfielder Ricardo Canales was instramental in setting up the offensive attacks and distributing the ball to goal scorers while scoring one goal as well. Jesus Vargas was another essential facilitator for the offense, he was responsible for assisted on five goals with one goal scored. 

Honored on the All-OEC second team are Alex Piñon, Anthony Garcia, and Kevin Reyes

Sophomore midfielder, Piñon, started 16 matches and appeared in 17 while recorded one assist. Freshman midfielder, Garcia, started 12 mataches and appeared in 17 while scoring two goals and assisting on three. Sophomore defender, Reyes, started and appeared in 18 matches while scoring three goals and being the enforcer for the defense.
