Orange, Calif. - Forward Ricky Briseno scored the game winning goal in the 85th minute to propel Golden West past Santiago Canyon 1-0.
With the win, Golden West captures their fifth Orange Empire Conference Championship in the last ten years.
It was a physical match, a style the Rustlers are accustomed to playing, that kept them on the offensive attack all match as the offense tallied 26 total shots with nine landing on goal. It only took one goal to win this match and the conference goal scoring leader Briseno was up for the task late in this one. Wilbert Loredo-Suarez crossed a perfect ball that Briseno timed to find the back of the net.
Goal keeper Benjamin Grismann was perfect in the goal with nine saves in the shutout victory.
With the win, the Rustlers wait to find out their seed in the upcoming CCCAA State playoff bracket for SoCal.
