Men's Swimming Season Starts On Top

Riverside, Calif. - Golden West traveled to Riverside for the 2014 season's first Orange Empire Conference meet. The defending CCCAA state champions Rustlers dominated in the water against hosts Riverside, as well as visiting Cypress and Santa Ana.

 Starting out the meet strong Daniel Roa, Gabriel Hernandez, Casey Klipisich and Jeremy Grden took first place in the 400 Yard Medley Relay (3:39.71).

In the 50 Yard Freestyle, Golden West took the top 3 spots, with freshman Davit Sikharulidze touching first  with a time of 21.51. On his heals were teammates Dylan Alba (22.07) and Tommy Cornes (22.53). Sikharulidze (46.28) and Alba (49.43) commanded the lead of the 100 Yard Freestyle event as well. 

Hernandez, a freshman took first place in the 200 Yard Butterfly finishing in 2:00.87, with Chris Dominguez touching third in 2:03.63. Hernandez then picked up first place in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:12.71.

Roa led the men in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:04.06, with Riverside touching 5 seconds later for second place.  

Finishing out the meet, Rustlers took first and second place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The first team: Alba, Cornes, Grden and Sikharulidze finished with a time of 3:13.91, the second team of Morgan, Loai Tashkandi, Klipsich and Keanu Martinez finished in 3:19.04.
