Rustler Swimming Powers Past Competition

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West men's swimming finished the day with a commanding lead over conference opponents Saddleback, Cypress and Fullerton. The hosts dominated the leader board in the every event, finishing first place in all 11 events swam, a Rustler took first and second place in 7 events,  and  even rounded out the top 3 in three events.   

Starting the meet strong for Golden West in the  400 yard Medley Relay, teammates Gabriel Hernandez, Jeremy Grden, Chris Dominguez and Keanu Martinez finished in 3:36.83. Dominguez then moved on to the 1000 yard Freestyle where he touched first with at time of 10:28.66. Grden placed first in the 200 Ind. Medley, finishing in 1:58.09

Sophomore Josh Morgan (1:51.08) lead the team in the 200 yard Freestyle, followed by Juan Lugue (1:22.67) for second place and Cornes (1:53.00) in third.

Golden West monopolized the 50 Freestyle with Dylan Alba finishing in 21.17, with Loai Tashkandi (21.64) and Keanu Martinez (22.07) on his heals. They also easily kept the competition out of top three in the the 500 yard Freestyle with Lugue finishing first (5:03.15)  Casey Klipsich (5:08.34) for second place and Miles Borgos (5:18.34) in third. 

Leading in the 200 yard Butterfly as well as the 200 yard Breaststroke, Hernandez touched first in 1:53.77 and 2:02.03.  Davit Sikharulidze completed the 100 yard Freestyle in a fast 46.74 for the win in his event, and Daniel Roa touched in 2:02.03 for first in the 200 yard Backstroke. 

Finishing off a highly successful meet, Golden West demolished the competition in the  400 yard Free Relay. Cornes, Sikharulidze, Grden and Dylan Alba  finished in 3:14.68 for first place and the team of Klipsich, Dominguez, Lugue and Jack Proctor took second in 3:29.87.

The Rustlers will host a Finals Meet on April 4th, starting at 8:30am before they go to the Orange Empire Conference Championships in Riverside. Golden West hopes to clench a back-to-back OEC title April 17th - 19th.
