Men's Swimming Takes First in 13 of 14 Events

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West's Men's Swim team dominated their first Orange Empire Conference quad meet of the 2014-15 season. The Rustlers hosted Riverside, Cypress and Santa Ana with the defending CCCAA State Champions taking first place in 13 out of 14 swimming events. 

In the first three men's events, Rustlers took not just first place, but the second place finish as well.  The first event for the men was the 200 yard medley relay where Gabriel Hernandez, Jeremy Grden, Bradley Toland and Fletcher Norseen finished in a fast 1:37.32; followed by teammates Alejandro Vassallo, Christian Carrasquilla, Nathan Torres and Dalton Kenefick (1:40.86). Mark Olsen took first in the 200 yard freestyle with 1:46.83, with Torres finishing in 1:48.37. 

The 100 yard backstroke was won in 54.60 by Hernandez followed by Vassallo (55.31). Hernandez also finished first place in the 200 yard butterfly (1:51.99) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:09.60).

Vassallo touched first in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:03.98 and in the 200 yard backstroke (2:01.28). Norseen, who has returned for his sophomore swim season, took first place in the 50 yard and the 100 yard freestyle in a quick 21.96 and 47.40.

Golden West continued to have the fastest times in the water with the 100 yard breastroke belonging to Grden (1:00.36), the 500 yard freestyle  going to Joseph Limon in 5:00.73 and Toland touching first in the 100 yard butterfly in 51.57.

The meet ended with the Rustlers finishing the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:28.38 with Norseen, Grden, Torres and Toland swimming away with the victory.
