Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West men's swim squad hit the water Friday hosting the annual Golden West Sprint Invitational and showed their swimming dominance finishing first with 453 points.
The 200 medley relay foursome of Alex Nathan (back), Stefan Kaminski (breast), Liam McClafferty (fly), and Nicky Ure (free) got the the day started finishing third with a time of 1:45.04. Santiago Rivera followed in the 100 yard fly event with a first place finish in 52.61 a full second in front of the second place finisher.
The dominance continued in the 50 yard breaststoke as Golden West took the top three spots as Kaminski finished first in 27.27, Miles Dunn came in second in 28.13, and Micah Kamai took third place with a 28.67 finish. Aidan Lund then placed first in the 100 yard backstroke with a finish of 54.95 almost a full three seconds before the second place finisher touched the board.
The foursome squad of Rivera, Connor Wallace, McClafferty, and Blake Williamson put on a clinic finishing in first place with a combined finish of 7:24.89. Ure claimed first place in the next event in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.34 while teammate Williamson finished in 22.43, good for third place.
The 500 yard freestyle was more of the same for the Rustlers as they had Wallace finish first in 5:01.99 and McClafferty finish second in 5:05.29. Continuing to show their speed in the freesyle events, the 200 free relay foursome of Rivera, Ure, AJ Littiken, and Williamson earned Golden West another first place finish in a time of 1:30.66.
Kaminski stayed on top of the field in the 100 yard breaststroke finishing in under a minute at 59.91 and teammate Dunn finished right behind him for second place in 1:00.85. Rivera continued his strong start with another first place finish, this time in the 200 yard individual medley in 1:58.36. Teammate Matt Dalija finished in third place in the 200 IM in 2:06.20.
Williamson and Austin Cozza finished first and second in the 200 yard freestyle with times of 1:48.43 and 1:49.23. In the 400 yard medley relay the Rustler foursome of Lund (Back), Rivera (Breast), Dalija (Fly), and Williamson (Free) finished first in a time of 3:41.03.
Dalija then took on the very quick 50 yard fly event and finished first in 24.60. Williamson kept the first place finishes coming in the 100 yard freestyle with a 48.50 finish. In the final event for the men they took a clean sweep of the top four spots in the 100 yard individual medley to close out a day that saw them capture 14 of the days 16 events.
