
The Golden West College men's track and field team had a strong showing at the 2025 Long Beach City College Viking Invitational, with standout performances in both track and field events. Several Rustler athletes notched top-three finishes, highlighted by a first-place victory in the hurdles and impressive jumps and throws.
Track Events:

100 Meters:
Freshman John Tran led the Rustlers in the sprints, finishing 21st overall with a time of 11.73 (3.3 wind), while teammate Darren Nguyen crossed in 12.54, showing promise for the young squad. -
200 Meters:
Tran also competed in the 200 meters, posting a time of 24.52 (2.7 wind) to place 36th overall, gaining valuable racing experience. -
1500 Meters:
In the distance events, Alejandro Lewis secured a 17th place finish with a time of 4:40.75, and Vincent Quach ran 5:21.40, rounding out the Rustler effort in the middle distances. -
400 Meter Hurdles:
Max Fister delivered one of the top performances of the day, capturing 1st place in the 400 hurdles with an impressive time of 57.47, showing speed and control over the barriers. Darren Nguyen also completed the race in 1:08.96, finishing 8th and gaining valuable race experience.Field Events:

Pole Vault:
Freshman Andrew Johnson cleared 3.50m (11' 5.75"), earning 3rd place in a competitive pole vault field, adding crucial points for the Rustlers. -
Long Jump:
Tran continued his strong meet by leaping 6.05m (19' 10.25") to take 3rd place in the long jump, showcasing his versatility as both a sprinter and jumper. -
Triple Jump:
Fister once again found success in the horizontal jumps, placing 2nd overall with a mark of 12.21m (40' 0.75"), contributing another podium finish for Golden West. -
Discus:
In the throws, Killian Nguyen led the way with a strong 8th place finish, throwing 34.60m (113' 6"), while Johnson added to his productive day by placing 12th with a mark of 31.57m (103' 7").
The Rustlers demonstrated their growing depth and potential with standout performances from Max Fister (1st in 400 hurdles, 2nd in triple jump), John Tran (3rd in long jump, top sprint times), and Andrew Johnson (3rd in pole vault, solid discus finish).
