Golden West Digs Out a Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West (3-1) hosted El Camino College in hard fought match, ending with the Rustlers finishing on top for their second win in a row at home. After falling to El Camino in the first set, Golden West rallied to end the set 3-1, final match scores were 22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-11.

After the first serve, the tone was set for an intense match up of two quality teams. The lead changed hands periodically during the first set, but it in the end, it was El Camino who pulled ahead to finish the set. Golden West would take the next three sets, dominating the Warriors in the fifth.

Sophomore Weston Carico delivered an impressive 22 kills, 1 ace, put up a solo block and finished with 6 digs. Carico, a force for Golden West, led the Rustlers in scoring 24 points over the match. Phil Lopez finished his night with 14 kills, and Gus Gregory served 2 aces over into El Camino territory.
