Rustlers Manhandle San Diego City

Rustlers Manhandle San Diego City

Golden West (8-7, 4-4) dominated from start to finish in what was a thrashing of winless San Diego City (0-14, 0-7). Most of the Rustlers' roster saw significant playing time and a few of the regulars were able to get some rest.

Every set was dominated by Golden West, but the Knights kept it close at each beginning. This was attributed to errors on the Rustler's end, but it was to no avail for San Diego City.

Since a multitude of players saw time for the Rustlers, there were not too many standout performances individually. Garrett Covey saw most of his time as the setter and took advantage helping the offense with 31 assists. Kevin Gorence led the attack with 13 kills. Alvin Truong, Bert Peyton and DJ Koenen were right behind him with 5.

Chris Vu was handed the libero jersey giving Jarrett Neal a match off. Vu came up big defensively leading the way with 8 digs. Truong followed with 6 out of a total of 29. Golden West took advantage of its superior height tallying 19 total blocks with Jared Chasse and Koenen leading with 4 a piece.

What jumped out during the match was the amount of service aces Golden West earned. Peyton recorded 4 and Vu came up with 3 out of an incredible 11 aces on the night.

The Beach Boys have only 2 more matches left at home this season and both are against opponents from San Diego county. Golden West will take on Grossmont April 2 and San Diego Mesa April 9.
