M Volleyball: Rustlers Take Care of Business in Sweep

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West men's volleyball came out Wednesday night ready to take care of business as they dismissed San Diego Mesa College in three straight sets 25-11, 25-13, 25-18.

The Rustlers (4-2) won their second straight three set sweep and this match ended in less than an hour over the Olympians (0-8) at home. The usual suspects showed up to compete for Golden West, as setter Brandon Pank had another terrific night setting up his teammates for 23 great hits. Outside hitter, Matthew Coleman took advantage of Panks sets as he recorded a team high 13 kills and was the only Rustler in double digits.

The first two sets saw Golden West build sizable leads to leave no doubt in taking a 2-0 advantage, but in the third set, SD Mesa surprised the Rustlers and held a 8-7 lead early in the third set. The Rustlers finally kicked it into gear from that point on and scored five unanswered to build a 12-8 lead and cause the Olympians to call a timeout. The momentum had clearly shifted to the Rustlers and they never surrendered the lead en route to their 3-0 sweep.

NEXT: Golden West will travel to Palomar College to take on the Comets at 6pm.
