Golden West Recognizes Four Rustlers for Sophomore Night

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West men's volleyball (14-3, 4-2 OEC) swept the Fullerton Hornets (3-16, 0-5 OEC) on sophomore night, (25-21, 25-19, 25-14). 

It was a joyous occasion as Golden West Athletics honored the graduating sophomores for the last regular season home game. Louis Zaffino, Ezra Vlad, Jaden Kodongan and Jason Thomas were the four sophomores honored that will continue their academic and athletic career elsewhere. 

For the start of the game, the visiting Hornets took an early lead, 5-7. Golden West worked from behind and made a comeback to tie it at seven apiece, 7-7. The home team took their first lead of the night with the one point edge, 8-7. Midway through the first set, the Rustlers took a three-point advantage from a Reggie Ah-hong service ace that forced a Fullerton timeout, 17-14. It was a close finish for the first set but Golden West separated for the victory, 25-21. 

The Rustlers held a healthy edge throughout the second set and held it late with a three-point lead, 21-18. Golden West walked away with the six-point win to end the second set, 25-19. The home team dominated the third and final set to take home the victory, 25-14. The Rustlers have two games remaining in the regular season with both being on the road. Golden West sits at second in the Orange Empire Conference with a 4-2 record just behind Orange Coast College with a 5-0 record. 

NEXT UP: The Rustlers next matchup will be at Orange Coast College on Wednesday, April 10th. The match will begin at 6pm.
