Rustlers Cruise Past Hawks in Sweep

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West College Rustlers extended their dominant season with a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-21, 25-14) over the Santiago Canyon Hawks on Friday night at home. The victory improved Golden West to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

The Rustlers came out firing in the first set, hitting an efficient .474, led by Owen Banner's team-high 8 kills on .312 hitting, along with a match-best 5 service aces to keep the Hawks off balance. Colin Harper and Aaron Greene also made strong offensive contributions, combining for 7 kills with Harper posting an impressive .400 hitting percentage.

Despite a slight dip in efficiency in the second set, Golden West's defense remained solid, limiting Santiago Canyon to just 4 kills and a -.182 hitting percentage in the frame. Jay Pearson led the team with 14 assists and 2 aces, while Brayden Huynh's 6 digs anchored the back row.

Golden West regained their attacking rhythm in the third set, closing out the match with a .444 hitting percentage. Aidan Dubno and Cole Comstock added valuable depth, combining for 6 kills off the bench, while the Rustlers' blocking game proved too much for the struggling Hawks.

For Santiago Canyon, CJ Hustedt was a bright spot with 6 kills on .286 hitting, but the Hawks were unable to generate consistent offense, finishing the match with a -.085 hitting percentage.
