Golden West Polo Starts Season 2-0

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West men's water polo team (1-0) opened up the 2012 season against Cerritos College with a 16-14 victory over the Falcons.

The Rustlers opened up the scoring just 17 seconds into the game, Ricardo Guimaraes (Brazil) stepped out at 2 meters and put one past the goalie.  In just under 2 minutes later the Rustlers put 2 more one the board, Kris Laczkovics (Hungary) scored on a cross pass and Ricardo Guimaraes notched his second goal of the game on another strong turn inside.  Falcons eventually got rolling on the offensive end took a 4-5 lead at the end of the first.

Golden West responded with another 3 quick goals to start the second quarter and regain the lead 7-5.  The Falcons and Rustlers traded goals for most of the second and third quarter.  It wasn't until the late in the 3rd quarter when the Rustlers broke away with a 14-8 lead and never looked back defeating Cerritos 16-14.  Golden West had a balanced attack with their goals coming from 6 different players: Kris Laczkovic 6, Ricardo Guimaraes 5, David Jorth 2, Scotty Silvas 1, John Lovat 1, Tommy Grall 1.

In their second contest of the day, Golden West played Riverside to a 17-9 decision.  Improving to 2-0 on the season.
