Men's Water Polo Win State Championship 16-10 Over DVC

Golden West College men's water polo team finished the 2012 season CCCAA State champions after defeating Diablo Valley College in a 16-10 victory. The Rustlers, for the second year in a row, claimed the water polo triple crown: State Champions, Southern California Champions and Orange Empire Conference Champions.

The men finished their undefeated season of 28-0 with their most tense match up of the year. Golden West dominated the game after being down 0-1 fifteen seconds into the game. The Rustlers tied it up at one apiece on their first possesion. From that moment on the Rustlers never looked back, taking a 4-1 lead half way through the first period and had a run of 5-0 before DVC could score again.

At the half the score was 9-4, and the Rustlers knew the game and the championship title was within their grasp. With a fire lit underneath the men, they finished the third quarter only allowing DVC two goals. Entering the final quarter, Golden West led 13-6, and while tensions were high, it was Golden West who finished victorious through the fray.

Golden West's goal keeper Marton Szabo had a total of ten blocks for the game, and second goalie, Nate Sfreddo blocked two shots in the championship game.

Leading the Rustlers in scoring was Kris Laczkovics with six goals, and one assist and Laszlo Nagy, who found the goal four times, and added three assists to the game. Ricardo Guimaraes scored two goals, and drew five ejections. Teammates David Jorth, Sean Grab and Austin Ringheim each scored in the final game.

The players and coaches would like to thank all of the family members and fans who traveled to support the team as they achieved this monumental goal.

Congratulations to Golden West's Mens 2012 Water Polo Team, CCCAA State Champions.
