Men's Water Polo Finished 5-1 in Weekend Tournament

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Golden West's Men's Water Polo (7-1) traveled to Cuesta College for 2 non-conference games and then a 2 day tournament over the weekend. The Rustlers finished the trip 5-1 loosing to Long Beach City College Saturday afternoon.

Golden West started strong on Thursday defeating host Cuesta 12-8, then American River 15-4 in the men's second game of the day. Friday, when the tournament started, the Rustlers' faced off first with LA Valley, winning 15-4; then West Valley, defeating the northern California team 11-7. Saturday morning the men played Cuesta again for 10-7 victory but unfortunately the men's first loss of the season came at the hands of Long Beach in a difficult 3-6 loss.

For the Rustlers' offense, sophomores Sean Grab proved to be a leader in the water, as well as on the scoreboard. On defense, Derek Iglesias helped keep the ball out of Rustler water forcing turnovers and Tommy Grall added 2 steals for himself. In the net Nate Sfreddo stepped up his game, blocking an impressive 7 shots in the American River game.

The men start conference play against Santa Ana on Wednesday, September 25th, game time is at 4:00pm.
