Golden West controls Orange Coast

Golden West controls Orange Coast

Costa Mesa, Calif. – Golden West (15-1, 4-0) showed their dominance against host Orange Coast College (15-3, 3-1) in a 13-10 Orange Empire Conference game.  The Rustlers led mere seconds after the first whistle was blown, scoring on their first possession of the game, just :25 seconds into the match.

Sophomore John Lovat (Huntington Beach, Ca) was the first of nine different Rustlers to put points on the board.  Golden West jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter and never looked back as the reigning state champions were able put the game out of reach early.

The Rustlers had very little trouble adapting to the poor conditions at Orange Coast College (the field of play does not meet minimum standards for championship competition) as they dominated every aspect of the game.  The Rustlers drew 12 ejections, not including Orange Coast's Colby Watson and Derek Salvino being removed from the game on misconducts.

Golden West pulled away again in the third quarter outscoring Orange Coast 5-1 and extending their lead to 12-6.

The Rustlers were lead by sophomore Róbert Schatz with three goals, while Austin Ringheim and Laszlo Nagy each added two.  Golden West had six other players partake in the scoring frenzy: John Lovat, Fletcher Norseen, Keanu Martinez, Ari Marks, Sean Grab and Tommy Grall each netted a goal in the win for the Rustlers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nate Sfreddo put up a stellar performance shutting down Orange Coast's offense with 11 blocks.

Golden West host's their annual tournament this Friday and Saturday.  The Rustlers are slated to play San Diego Mesa on Friday at 9:40am.
