Men's Water Polo Moves on to State

 

Cerritos, Calif. - Men's Water Polo finish 2nd in SoCals, falling to Long Beach City College 8-3 in the Championship game. The men played strong leading up to the final game, overpowering Cerritos (13-9) and Grossmont (13-7). 

Golden West will go into the State playoffs attempting a three-peat for the championship, but first they will face off with the No. 1 team in the North, West Valley, who the Rustlers defeated twice earlier in the season.

In their game against Cerritos, Golden West jumped out with the lead against the host team and allowing Cerritos just a single goal in the 2nd quarter. Leading the Rustlers in scoring, sophomore Ari Marks netted 4 goals, with Sean Grab adding 3 of his own. 

The semifinal game against Grossmont, the Griffins gave the Rustlers something to work for. The men went into the half with the scored tied 4-4, but it would be the Rustlers who ruled the water in the end. Golden West rekindled their fire in the 3rd, outscoring Grossmont 5-1. John Lovat scored 3 goals in the second half with Fletcher Norseen, Tommy Grall, Jeremy Grden each adding a pair. 

Golden West will travel to Riverside City College where they will play West Valley on Friday, November 22nd at 10:30am in the State Semifinal game.  Winner of this game will play for the state title at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 23rd.  The loser of the game will be playing the 3rd place game at 9:30am on Saturday.
