Golden West To Face Long Beach For State Title

Golden West Beats West Valley to Force State Championship Rematch Sacramento, CA -- The Golden West College Men's Water Polo team knocked off North #2 West Valley College 15-10 on Friday afternoon to close out the Semi-Finals of the 2014 California Community College Athletic Association Men's Water Polo State Championships. The win sets a rematch of last years State Title game when the Rustlers fell to Long Beach City College who won the 2013 CCCAA State Championship and defeated North #1 Diablo Valley College earlier in the day.

Golden West jumped out to a 4-0 lead nearly right away getting goals from Dalton Kenefick, Mitchell Holden, Ciaran Wolohan, and Bendeguz Toth to kick the game off. West Valley would get on the board in thanks to a goal by Daniel Urgay with 1:56 left in the first, but by the end the Rustlers led 6-2.

West Valley started out the second with the first goal, cutting their deficit to three, but Golden West answered rattled off three straight to go up 9-3. From that point forward the Rustlers lead never dipped below four.

Saturday's State Championship contest will be the fourth meeting this year between Long Beach City College and Golden West College. The Vikings do own the lone loss of the season by the Rustlers, but Golden West has taken two of the three previous meetings including a 9-5 decision over Long Beach last weekend at the Southern California Championships. The title game is set for 3:00 PM.
