Golden West College men's water polo team won their 29th Southern California Regional Championship. With the win Golden West heads into this weekend as the No. 1 seed for the 2015 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Water Polo State Championships.
All four teams at this year's state tournament return for the third straight season. No. 1 seed Golden West College faces North's No. 2 West Valley College at 1:30 p.m. In the other semifinal, Long Beach will play on Friday at 10:30 a.m. against Diablo Valley College.
The winners advance to the state championship final on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with the third-place game to be played that morning at 9:30 a.m.
Dating back to the school's inception, the Rustlers have been to 48 of the 50 state championship tournaments, the Rustlers have won a total of 23 Men's Water Polo State Championships. In the past 7 years, Golden West has won 5 state titles.
Under the direction of Coach Scott Taylor (2002 – present), the men's water polo team has an impressive record of 412-31-0.
