Men’s Water Polo Beats Citrus and LA Valley

Huntington Beach, Calif.Game 1 - Golden West (2-0) came out shooting early and as often as possible, as they scored the game's first four goals and went on to beat Citrus College (0-2) 17 to 9.  James Smith (2), Tom McJannett, and Alessandro Valania found the back of net in the first four minutes of play to open with a 4-0 lead. By the end of the first quarter the Rustlers would have the lead 6-3.

Golden West's Peter Lovas would score back to back goals mid-way through the second quarter to extend the lead 8-3. Citrus would answer right back with two unanswered goals to cut the lead to only three with three minutes left in the first half. Both teams would each net a goal with under 30 seconds left in the first half to make it a 9-6 lead for the Rustlers at half.

The second half is where the Rustlers defense got stingy and held Citrus to just three goals. Golden West netted five goals in the third quarter and three goals in the fourth quarter to secure the 17-9 victory.

Game 2 – The Rustlers jumped out to a quick two goal lead but then gave up six unanswered goals to LA Valley in the first quarter to trail for the first time in the young 2016 campaign 6-2. Head Coach Scott Taylor made some second quarter personnel changes and had a defensive inspired squad that shut out LA Valley the rest of the game.

The second half was all Golden West as they would score seven straight goals in the third quarter to give the Rustlers the lead for the first time since the beginning of the first quarter 12-6. The fourth quarter both teams were held scoreless and the Rustlers walked away with a complacent 12-6 victory.
