Golden West Takes 2016 SoCal Crown

Huntington Beach, Calif. – The Golden West College (29-0, 5-0) men's water polo team are 2016 SoCal regional champions thanks to a pair of victories Saturday. The first victory came in the regional semifinal match against the #4 seed Riverside City College (20-10, 5-2) 13-7. Peter Lovas led the Rustler offense with four goals in the match. That win guaranteed Golden West's trip to the CCCAA State Championship tournament November 18-19.

The second victory came in the Regional Championship match against #3 seed Long Beach City College (21-6, 7-1) 16-5. The Rustlers were in control from the opening sprint of the match as they took a first quarter lead 4-1 thanks to a pair of goals by Matheus Santos. The second quarter it was Tom McJannett that would net three goals en route to a 9-4 halftime lead.

The second half was more the same as the Golden West defense only surrendered one goal and six different Rustlers netted a goal.
