Scott Taylor Named 2016 Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year

Golden West Men's Water Polo coach and Swim coach Scott Taylor was named the 2016 Coach of the Year for all Men's Sports programs in the Orange Empire Conference.

Coach Taylor led Golden West's Men's Water Polo team to their 24th CCCAA State Title and 46th OEC Conference Championship Title.  The Rustler Water Polo team was unstoppable in the 2016, finishing the year 31-0.

Under the direction of Scott Taylor (2002-2016) the Men's Water Polo program has won a total of 7 CCCAA State Titles, 14 Regional Championships and 15 OEC Conference Championships.  At the conclusion of the 2016 season, Taylor has maintained an unprecedented 93.5% win percentage in the pool with an overall record is 443-31.

When Coach Taylor was asked about receiving this honor he humbly stated, "that all of this would not have been possible without working with such a great coaching staff: Zak Kappos, Danny Johnson, Dan Matulis and Tracy Maurer."

In the spring, Coach Taylor and the Men's Swim team captured their 16th CCCAA State Title and 35th OEC Conference Championship. The men's team dominated the field with 573 points in the State Championships, 107 points over the second-place team.

The Rustler coach also boasts one the highest transfer rates to a 4-year institution, proving his athletes have the ability to perform in the classroom as well. "It's all for the guys," said Taylor, "we teach them to hold themselves to a higher standard of excellence; and hopefully they can translate that drive into the sport and their education."
