Rustlers Advance to State Championships, defeat Citrus 9-7

Van Nuys, Calif. – Golden West College's men's water polo team qualifies for their 31st state water polo tournament appearance with a 9-7 victory over Citrus College.

The Rustlers went ahead early in the first quarter 2-0 with goals from Freshman, Nicky Ure and Vedran Latkovic.  Citrus ended up tying the game up 3-3 in the first quarter.  

In the second quarter, Freshman, Nick Hallam netted back to back goals to put Golden West up 5-3.  Citrus would respond with two goals of their own, once again tying the game up 5-5 at half.

Golden West would shutout Citrus in the 4th quarter, scoring four unanswered goals and advancing to the championship game.

Rustler scoring was led by Freshman, Nicky Ure and Vedran Latkovic with 2 goals a piece. 

Freshman goalie, Nolan Strout had 5 saves on the game.

 

Later on today, Golden West will face Long Beach City College in the Southern California Championship game at 2:45pm at LA Valley College 

 

2017 State Championships will be held November 17th and 18th at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, CA.
